A recent, stunning, jewelry project by Artist Michal Rothschild is revealing a rare, pure, salt-crystal, found by the artist at the lowest point on earth.
“Ever since I was a little girl, the Dead Sea was my favorite place and is a major source of inspiration to me, as a multi-disciplinary artist.
During my endless expeditions at the Dead Sea I have always found amazing things, the sea is full of wonderful gifts, but when I first found the “Dead Sea Diamonds” I was completely stunned, it was like nothing else I had seen before; The divine perfection of their form, the amazing reflections they casted and their mysterious mystique… all that gave rise to the idea of making jewelry with them. They look as if they were laser cut, but their architecture has been fully designed by nature. The Jewellery design is therefore minimalistic and simple keeping the salt-crystal as the center of the piece and the contact of the crystal with the body is flawless.” (...Rothschild)
The Dead Sea is situated 400m below sea level and it is the lowest point on earth. It is considered one of the Jewel’s crown of nature. The crystals are sourced from the Dead Sea, have a unique clear texture and symmetrical shapes.
They encapsulate all the special virtues and minerals of the Dead Sea, known for their healing and rejuvenating properties; Therfore the jewelry is designed to be worn with the salt crystals coming in direct contact with the skin, especially near the thyroid and the airways. By wearing the jewelry you are carrying with you a little private salt room wherever you go, benefiting directly from the salt’s unique qualities.
Homer called salt a divine substance. Plato described it as especially dear to the gods.
In most cultures carrying salt is an emblem of protection against the devil and bad energies. Symbolically salt imbues divine sanctity, prosperity, wisdom, and friendship while In alchemy, salt stands for the soul and the collective consciousness of the ocean.
The Dead Sea was a sought-after destination for royalty, such as King Herod and Queen Cleopatra, who visited the Dead Sea to enrich their bodies and soul with the essential minerals of the water and mud pools.
By wearing this piece of jewelry you are taking with you the essence of the Dead Sea qualities wherever you go. This is your very own salt capsule endowed by nature, meant for you to bond with and meant to last for as long as it is duly cared for.
