The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler
is a movie based on Anna Mieszkowska's book entitled "Matka dzieci Holocaustu". It tells the story of the activities of Irena Sendler during World War II, who together with a group of co-workers, initiated a large-scale operation to rescue children from the Warsaw Ghetto. The film focuses primarily on the contribution of the Polish nation to saving Jews.
The movie covers both Irena's cooperation with the Council to Aid Jews - "Zegota" - and with the Church. Thanks to this help, children taken out of the ghetto were placed in Polish families, orphanages, and monasteries. In this way, Irena saved about 2,500 thousand children.
