Amazon wins dispute with the European Commission over the payment of taxes

The American company Amazon has won a dispute with the European Commission in the EU Court in Luxembourg over an order to pay 250 million euros in arrears in taxes for Luxembourg.

According to the EU Court, the Commission has not shown that Luxembourg treated the US company in a special way in breach of state aid rules.

"The Commission has not proved (...) that there has been an unjustified reduction in the tax burden on the European subsidiary of the Amazon group," said EU judges.

Amazon accepted the ruling with satisfaction. The company indicated that it complied with all applicable laws and received no preferential treatment.

The EC informed that it would analyze the judgment and decide whether it would appeal to the CJEU.
