Students from various NAWA programs also go to Poland, although according to the agency's information, there is no inheritance. "After the recruitment in programs dedicated to foreign students was closed, we can say that the epidemiological situation did not reduce the number of candidates. In the enrollment for student programs, we recorded a greater number of applications compared to last year" - the agency told PAP. NAWA recorded the largest number of applications in the Ignacy Łukasiewicz, addressed to students from developing countries.
According to the data of the Perspektywy Education Foundation, 85 thousand foreign students were educated in Poland in January 2020. The dominant foreign groups were Ukrainians (over 39,000 in the 2018/2019 academic year, which constitutes 50% of all foreign students) and Belarusians (over 7,000, 9%). This may change in the 2020/21 academic year. The uncertainty regarding the possibility of crossing state borders and the prospect of possible further restrictions caused some students to give up the possibility of studying at foreign universities.
The Ministry of Science also referred to the internationalization of research at universities. He cited the analysis of the industry portal for scientists Research Gate - which shows that scientific activity is not decreasing, but is changing its form. "Some scientists spend less time in laboratories, but remote work on scientific projects is still ongoing and international cooperation in the online space is developing. (...) Interestingly, scientists in the survey of the portal indicate that the situation in which we found ourselves, opens the way to more informal and faster international cooperation "- noted the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
